p. 226  "She would have been seventeen."  Capote uses Dewey's comment to Perry to transition from the questioning of Perry to Perry's thoughts later as he lies in bed awake wondering what the cops' motives really are. It seems as if to avoid thinking about Nancy as a person, Perry is quick to revert to somebody being out to "get him."  Perhaps that's how criminal minds work; instead of empathizing with others, they quickly look at how they are being victimized.
